1. Purpose and scope

1.1This policy sets out Lead Ignition Ltd's approach to managing its environmental impact. It applies to all directors, employees and contractors.

2. Our impact

2.1We are a small CRM and automation business working remotely. We hold no premises, operate no company vehicles, manufacture nothing, and hold no stock. We produce no industrial waste, no emissions to air or water, and no hazardous waste.

2.2Our environmental impact is small. It comes mainly from three sources:

  • the energy used in our home offices to run our devices;
  • business travel, which is occasional; and
  • the cloud services that host the systems we and our clients rely on, along with the hardware we buy and eventually dispose of.

3. Responsibility

3.1James Moyies, Director, is responsible for compliance with environmental law and for this policy.

4. Our commitments

  • We comply with all applicable environmental legislation.
  • We operate as a remote business. Not running an office avoids the largest environmental cost a company our size would otherwise carry.
  • We keep business travel to a minimum and hold meetings remotely by default.
  • We buy hardware infrequently, keep it in service for as long as it is secure and supported, and dispose of it through a WEEE-compliant recycler or a reuse scheme rather than in general waste.
  • We work almost entirely without paper.
  • We favour cloud providers who publish credible commitments on renewable energy and carbon reduction, where we have a genuine choice between providers.
  • We securely erase all data from any device before it is disposed of or passed on.

5. Carbon emissions

5.1We are a small company and our carbon emissions are low. We have no premises, vehicles, servers or manufacturing, so our footprint comes only from home office energy, occasional travel and the cloud services we use.

5.2We do not have a net zero target. We are not required by law to set one or to report our emissions, and for a business our size the cost of measuring and certifying a target would outweigh the benefit. We keep our footprint low through the commitments in section 4.

5.3We will review this if the business grows significantly, takes on premises, or a client requires it.

6. What we do not currently do

6.1We do not publish a carbon footprint report, we are not carbon neutral, and we have not set greenhouse gas reduction targets. We do not have an energy management system with measurable targets, because we have no premises whose energy use we could manage.

6.2We would rather record this accurately than claim otherwise.

7. Review

7.1This policy is reviewed annually by the owner. It is reviewed sooner if the business takes on premises, employs significantly more people, or changes in a way that materially alters its environmental impact.
